No data protection officer has been appointed, as the statutory conditions requiring one are not met.

2. Principles

This website is purely informational. It sets no cookies, includes no analytics or tracking services, uses no ad networks and contains no third-party embeds such as YouTube, Bandcamp or Spotify players. There is no contact form, no user account and no newsletter.

There is exactly one exception, in the shop only — local storage in your browser, described in section 5. It is triggered by a deliberate action on your part, never by simply visiting the page.

Fonts are served locally from our own server. No connection is made to third-party servers such as Google Fonts, and your IP address is therefore not transmitted to any third party for this purpose.

Consent (a cookie banner) is not required, because no data is collected beyond the technically necessary server log files.

3. Hosting and server log files

The provider processes the data on our behalf under a data processing agreement pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR. The servers are located in Germany.

When you visit this website, the hosting provider automatically collects information that your browser transmits and that is technically necessary to display the page to you, namely:

  • IP address of the requesting device
  • date and time of access
  • name and URL of the file retrieved
  • volume of data transferred and confirmation of successful retrieval
  • the website from which the request originates (referrer)
  • browser used, its version, and the operating system

Legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest lies in the technically error-free operation and delivery of the website and in ensuring system security. This data is not merged with other data sources, nor evaluated for marketing purposes.

Retention: log files are deleted automatically after no more than seven days, unless they are required to investigate a specific case of misuse or a malfunction.

4. Contact by email

If you contact us by email, we process your details solely in order to handle your enquiry. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (legitimate interest in responding to enquiries), or Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR where your enquiry is directed at entering into a contract.

We delete this data once your enquiry has been dealt with conclusively and no statutory retention periods apply. Please note that unencrypted email may be read by third parties in transit.

5. Shop: choosing an Amazon marketplace

Merch is sold through Amazon Merch on Demand and fulfilled by a different Amazon marketplace depending on the country. So that you do not land in a store that cannot ship to you, the page suggests one.

That suggestion is made entirely inside your browser, from two signals your browser already exposes: your configured time zone and your preferred languages. There is no IP geolocation, no third-party service is contacted, and the result never leaves your device. We do not learn which marketplace you were shown.

Storage: if — and only if — you change the marketplace yourself using the selector, your choice is saved under the key synesthetique.store in your browser's localStorage so that it survives to your next visit. All that is stored is the country code (for example DE). It is not a cookie, nothing is transmitted to a server, and nothing is written when you merely visit the page.

Legal basis for this access to your terminal equipment is Section 25 (2) no. 2 TDDDG: the storage is strictly necessary to provide a service you have expressly requested — remembering your marketplace choice. No consent is required for it. You can delete the entry at any time through your browser's website-data settings; the site works exactly as before afterwards.

6. Links to external services

This website links to third-party streaming, social media and shop services. These are plain links, not embedded content. Your data is therefore only transmitted to those providers once you actively click such a link and open the provider's site.

From that point onwards, the privacy policy of the respective provider applies, over whose processing we have no influence. Some of these providers also process data in the USA:

You have the following rights regarding your personal data:

9. Right to lodge a complaint

Without prejudice to any other remedy, you have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, in particular in the Member State of your residence, place of work, or the place of the alleged infringement.

10. No automated decision-making

No automated decision-making, including profiling, within the meaning of Art. 22 GDPR takes place.

11. Changes to this policy

We update this privacy policy whenever changes to the website or to the legal situation make it necessary. The version published here applies in each case.
